Trio Iberia

May 18, 8:00 p.m.

Trio Iberia, In the Heart of Spain

A teeming musical universe!

The Trio Iberia is dedicated to Spanish classical music. Its repertoire is composed of new arrangements of works for orchestra or piano by some of the greatest Spanish composers, including Isaac Albéniz, Enrique Granados, Manuel de Falla and Joaquín Rodrigo.

The coexistence of many peoples on its territory has contributed to Spain's blended musical traditions. There were eight centuries of Arab presence. Sephardic Jews and gypsies from the East brought their traditions and their ways of living. All these cultures introduced their music into the soil of the Iberian Peninsula. Flamenco is a result of this combination, and a variety of Oriental colourations can be heard in the watermark of Spanish classical music, making it more exotic.

In the year of its founding, the Trio Iberia was a finalist for the 2015 Opus Prize. The group released an album in 2017 and the Conseil des Arts de Montréal gave it a concert tour in 2017-18. A magnificent concert in the heart of sunny Spain awaits you.

The performers : Michel Beauchamp, seven-string classical guitar; Johanne Morin, violin; Julie Trudeau, cello.
